Trivial Pursuit originally was a board game testing a players general and popular culture knowledge. It was created in 1979 by Scott Abbott who one day found pieces of his scrabble missing and decided with some friends to create their own game which after some development was released in 1982. In 1984 over 20 million games were sold and had been sold in 26 countries in 17 languages. Trivial Pursuit has been developed into TV shows in several of the countries including the USA, England and Spain and the game itself has also appeared in several TV shows including Seinfeld.
Trivial Pursuit has also been a highly competitive game with people really getting fired up over the questions, certainly everyone has that one fact they learned through playing trivial pursuit that they will never forget. There have been several editions to suit different age ranges including Trivial Pursuit Junior and Trivial Pursuit Family as well as the original Trivial Pursuit. To celebrate the 25 year span of this well loved game there will be a relaunch of the boxed game as well as an online version with a version available for the Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 (and Live).
With various playing modes such as multiplayer and single player there are some good games such as 'clear the board' to name but one from within the single player mode. The visuals are good and there are a lot of new questions and types that are exclusive to the console version and it allows you to play amongst the family at home on the living room TV. On the down side, the questions are a little repetitive after a while and although the quality of the asked trivia questions is good, some of you will be left pondering random arts books that you swear blind were never even written! All in all EA have developed a fairly strong outing for a classic board game's adoption to the gamers world, although if these games translate very well is a different question altogether.
